Work process

I have more clothes than the reasonable minimum I need, say, by excess culture standard. And I have much more than the actual minimum, which would probably be 1-2 items of each type. However, drawing on clothing the way I do it currently applies only to bright colored shirts. Most of the ones I have are meant for home use (but of course I can wear them outside too if I decide to ignore people’s reaction). Also, many shirts have one side occupied by an image, which will require a bit more creativity to cover with my own, or in some cases just leaves me only one side to draw on.

Therefore, what I work with is:

I don’t buy clothes just because. I only buy them when I need them. And I certainly don’t want to fund slave work in the process or stopping it. That would be like killing for peace… so I’ll see what I have and work with that.

The good thing about home shorts is that I can freely experiment on them and make mistakes. And the color could even wash off if I immediately do that after making a mistake. Shirts for outside need to be complete designs ready for long-time use. I can wear experiments anywhere of course, but the supply is limited, which means taking risks should be reasonably minimized.

I may even have a small enough amount of shirts to give them name tags. We’ll see soon when I go over the pile.

Current process:

  1. Choose text/image
  2. Choose final design and layout
  3. Draw sketch on computer or (recycled/reused) paper
  4. Draw on experiment shirt
  5. Fix/update as needed
  6. Draw on final-use shirt (use cardboard to avoid color passing through)
  7. Make picture with laptop camera and upload
  8. If it becomes difficult to manage the collection using images, start making a list here on the wiki.

Quantity Tracking

How many clothes does a person really need?

I started to watch the amount of clothing I have, and donate extras. It will help me and others learn how much is really necessary. It will allow me to donate more things to people who need them. It will lead me to have more Stuff. And more Stuff means more room for the spirit, the soul. It also means I need less space for storage.

Here’s a list of items I have, and the limit I set over their quantity. Absence of limit means I haven’t set it yet.

I’ll be gradually lowering the limits. There is very little one actually needs. And less is more. I know this short sentence is everywhere, but think about it. The wealthier we become materially, the poorer we become spiritually.
