I’m going to change the appearance of my watch and my wallet, to make them express a new culture that is ethical and good.
Stuff
I have two wallets. I bought my first wallet several years ago, and at some point after years there was too much damage, and I bought a new one. Both wallets are intentionally made to look like leather wallets, i.e. made of the skin of animals murdered for this purpose.
Recently my girlfriend fixed the old wallet, so now I have 2 usable wallets.
I also have a wrist watch. It’s a shiny metal one, that looks very expensive, but it wasn’t really very expensive.
These items express materialism, consumerism, capitalism, class division. They promote irresponsible use of the Earth’s resources for goals that are complete lies and deceptions we are programmed to pursue.
Plan
I’d like to paint one of the wallets in a color that doesn’t look like anything made of animals, or at least unexpected for leather. For example: white, yellow, green, blue, red, purple, orange. Then I’ll write some text or draw something on the wallet, to express the truth about money and capitalism.
I also want to paint the watch, to make it not shine, not attract attention and look like a simple cheap watch.
It would be nice to get or create paint using natural environment friendly materials.
Progress
I painted my wallet with dark blue spray.
Ideas for the text:
- Generally, something about the lack of actual need for money and the good things that happen when it’s absent
- What is the meaning of life?
- It’s just rectangle papers.
- A rich person is one who is happy with what they have.
- Something about the origin of money according to David Graeber
