Introduction
Rel4tion is a project which aims to spread semantic computing everywhere and make it available where it can improve software and make it more powerful and more able to help people do their work.
Semantic computing means that all information is based on a model concerned only with meaning, not with structure. It allows both users and developers to think and work in a higher abstraction level, dealing with what they mean, and not with the specific structures computers use to store the information.
The technical details and mathematical theory behind the idea can often be more complex than you wish to know, even more because you are probably not used to the semantic model (which the file/folder hierarchy is something you probably know for long time). Semantic desktop and web technology has existed for a while, but perhaps somehow the new complexity it brings didn’t get through and it’s hardly being used. Rel4tion is therfore about you, the people. It will make things simple. It will create friendly interfaces and tools that are meant for everyone, including average users, and can run on simple computers without heavy server infrastructure.
In other words, all the complexity will be hidden behind a simple, intuitive, friendly interface. One day, if semantic computing becomes the standard, this will be easier because it will be what people use by default, starting in elementary school. Until then, it will require opening your mind to a new idea, a new way of thinking about information.
Rel4tion is being developed by [[fr33domlover]].
Releases
Rel4tion is a platform which includes many components. It includes both system components which developers use, and end-user applications which everyone can use. Server side programs are part of it too.
Each component is a separate project, but they work together to create a full environment for semantic computing. While each has its own releases and versions, Rel4tion makes releases of the entire environment, with all components coordinated to work together and easily be installed on your computer.
The releases are made according to the [[roadmap]], and will be provided as tarballs and distribution packages.
The list of releases is [[here|releases]].
